Originally from Cincinnati, OH, James found his way to the near northwest side of Chicago after graduating the University of Cincinnati in 2022. James became interested in fly fishing after looking for a way to reconnect with his childhood: turning over rocks, stomping up creeks, and spending days upon end sitting on the dock catching fish with his grandfather. He picked up a fly rod in the late summer of 2023 and now spends his workdays day-dreaming of the next adventure with a fly-rod in hand. Chicago is not known for its fly-fisheries, but James is motivated by a quote from painter Henri Matisse: “There are cathedrals everywhere for those with eyes to see.” That philosophy motivates James to explore new waterways, target new species, and continue to learn as much as he can. Along with fly fishing, James is a passionate backpacker, fly tyer, activist, and reader, but also just as likely to be at home sinking slowly into the couch watching the same shows for the 10th time. James joined CFF in 2026, and is excited to build a community of fly-fishers that prioritizes inclusion, accessibility, and fun.
